What is a baby shower?

A baby shower is a party to celebrate the expectant mother and her soon-to-be baby. The celebration is usually held in the 6th–8th month of pregnancy by friends or family. The tradition, which originally comes from the United States, has also become very popular in Norway.

The party often includes food, cakes, toys and activities such as baby bingo or guessing the due date. Guests bring gifts for the baby or the expectant mother, and some also choose their own variations such as a "momshower" or "diaper party."
